On Target to Beijing

On Target to Beijing

Go Emma Lunder & Christian Gow!

In our on Target Follow the journey of 2 biathletes - Emma Lunder & Christian Gow - sponsored by Lifesport heading to the Olympics.

In our On Target to Beijing series we follow Emma in her 2021/2022 racing campaign.

Here's a quick introduction to Emma and Christian:

Hi! I'm Emma Lunder and I'm a Winter Olympian in the sport of biathlon. I've been a member of Canada's Senior National Biathlon Team since 2015, and a World Cup racer since 2014.

I am super pumped to be partnering with Lifesport for the 2021/2022 race season as I aim for the podium at the upcoming Beijing Olympics this February.

When I'm not out on the local ski trails or racing in Europe, you can find me serving up lattes at Canmore Starbucks, or curled up with a good book from the Canmore Public Library.

My name is Christian Gow and I am a biathlete on the Senior National Biathlon Team. I am super excited to be joining the LifeSport team as they help me reach my goals of representing Canada at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Beijing! I'll be providing frequent updates on the LifeSport social media if you want to follow along with my journey. An interesting fact about me is that I lived in Mexico for 3 years as a child and completed my first years of school there.

Emma and I are leaving for the Olympic Games this Saturday!

We are finishing a final bit of training at altitude in Antholz before heading to China. We are so excited to get this opportunity to represent Canada at the Olympics and can't wait for the competitions to start!

Thanks for following along and supporting us!

On the road it's important that we keep up with our gym sessions to keep our bodies strong and injury free. Every break from racing, we take the opportunity to get back in the weight room more regularly and build up some strength! With covid, we bought a small gym set up that we travel with so we can use it without risk of being around other people.

Happy New Years'. Currently training in Antholz, Italy for our last big training block before the Olympics! It's always one of my favorite places as Italy has amazing food, sunshine and mountains.
We're getting in some higher altitude training as our last prep for Beijing - it's crazy to think that in just 3 weeks we will be getting ready to hop on a plane and start the 2022 Winter Olympics!

Just finished a week of racing in France. One of the best parts of racing on the World Cup circuit are the thousands of fans that come to spectate. The French World Cup was the first time we've had a large crowd since covid started. It was so awesome to race with fans again; the atmosphere was electric!

I travel with athlete cards to autograph and give to all the die-hard fans. Pre-signing is the only way to go or else it takes too long to hand them all out!

Enjoy the holidays,
Christian

Unfortunately at the end of our time in Sweden I caught the head cold that had been circulating through our team. It's always a tough decision to make around racing, but being health is my #1 priority so I cheered for the Canadian from my bed in Austria all week.
Luckily I was able to start training lightly by the end of the week and got out for an amazing classic ski on the rec trails just outside of Hochfilzen. It was such a treat to have sunshine & mountains & endless trails to explore!

After a few days of training & recovering from jetlag in Idre, Sweden we drove north to Ostersund for the World Cup. It felt exciting to be back in the racing atmosphere, and even better was that the first race of the season was a huge success for the Canadians! We had three top-10 results (myself, Scott Gow and Christian Gow).

It's been cold and dark in Sweden, but really nice skiing conditions, and pretty easy conditions on the range. We've even seen the sun a few times which has been a real treat!'

GO CANADA!

We just arrived in Ostersund, Sweden for the World Cup season opener. I am excited to be back on the circuit and to start racing again! We spent the first few days overseas in Idre, Sweden to get over jet lag and get a bit of training in. With all the travel we do there are a few items that end up being essential for all of my trips. My top 3 things to bring with me are my headphones, kindle, and my foam roller (not necessarily in that order:-))We just arrived in Ostersund, Sweden for the World Cup season opener.
